What are micro-greens?
Micro-greens, the "young greens from seeds", are something that everyone
is talking about – and with a micro-garden, they can be there on your
table as well! These young seedlings provide wonderful aromas and a
decorative look, and they are rich in vitamins and minerals. A seedling
develops from the seed; from the seed develops a sprout which will
continue to grow and, after a few days, develop into a micro-green; also
known as a leaf green, green herb or baby green. They should be
harvested when they reach a size of 2.5 to 7.5 cm.
Micro-greens are super!
Micro-greens are a nutritious superfood. Along with essential amino
acids, they contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C. Micro-greens have an
intense taste and they complement salads, soups, sandwiches, pizza,
pasta, sauces, dips and smoothies with their aromas, which range from
mild and refreshing to hot and spicy and sweet. These small plantlets
are also extremely decorative as a topping. It’s eye candy as well! You
can grow vegetables as well as cultivated and wild herbs, such as cress,
coriander, chervil beans, peas, mustard, broccoli, mint, rocket, red
cabbage, radish, cauliflower, basil, amaranth, fennel, dill and
sunflower. The cultivation will be easily achieved on your window sill
within 365 days.
It’s so easy
The seeds require darkness and high air humidity for germination. With
this in mind, the micro-garden can be e.g. covered with the optional
harvest plate. After a few days, the plantlets will require sunlight,
and they can be harvested after 5 to 20 days (depending on the type and
conditions).
Grow and harvest in a cycle
You can cultivate and harvest continuously with a second micro-garden.
With this, we offer the optional micro-garden set, consisting of two
plant stations. After germination, just replace the lower bowl with the
upper one. You can repeat the germination process in the lower bowl,
while the seedlings in the upper bowl receive light and grow. This
allows for a constant growing cycle. If the seeds in the lower bowl have
also germinated, you can locate both bowls separately.
Patented plant stone
A new feature is the cultivation of micro-greens on our patented plant
stone. Until now, soil, coconut or hemp growing mats have been used in
the self-cultivation of micro-greens. Naturally, this is not sustainable
– these substrates can only be used once. In addition, there is
waterlogging, which means a risk of mould growth and the development of
odours.
The plant stone is made of a patented Porosium® ceramic. It absorbs a
lot of water and releases it in good doses. The seeds scattered above
benefit from ideal germination conditions, and sprouts remain moist,
wholly with no wet "feet". Since the stone stores water and
automatically sucks new things out of the bowl, hardly any care is
required. After the harvest, the roots can be easily detached, and the
stone can be easily disinfected with hot water. After this, it will be
ready to use again. There is nothing more sustainable!
Useful accessories:
Harvest plate
With a suitable harvest plate, you can cover the bowl, thus ensuring
darkness during the germination phase. If the micro-greens have reached
their desired size, the plate can be used for harvesting.
Wool mat
The soft mats are decorative and, at the same time, very practical.
Scratching is prevented at sensitive spots; at the same time, the mats
will protect the base from condensation that may form at the bottom of
the bowl. The major advantage of it (compared to felt) is that our
material can be washed easily.
Organic seeds set
Our seeds set includes 8 different varieties of micro-greens: Rosé
Radish, Alfalfa, Arugula, Cress, Daikon Radish, Mustard, Broccoli,
Mizuna Red. The different micro-greens have a variety of interesting
flavours e.g. mild, refreshing, hot and spicy, or sweet. The seeds are
free of genetic engineering. They can be grown as a single variety or
mixed together – the contents of the pack are sufficient for approx. 8
sowings.
Granicium is characterised by the properties of its raw material, granite. The high quartz and feldspar content makes this ceramic particularly robust and durable.
